International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually observed on the 3rd of December, with an objective to promote an awareness of disability issues, the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities and integration of persons with disabilities into the main stream, as declared by the UN General Assembly in the year 1982. Around 10% of the world’s population, or 650 million people, live with disabilities and this day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. We were not even aware of this.
But as is rightly said 'ignorance is bliss". On that very day, we took two important steps, while being totally unaware of its significance. On 3rd December, 2010, Ms Sudipta Dey Sarkar, a specially-abled trainee of ejunction joined us. She will be developing databases for our B2C businesses. As Sudipta is unable to travel alone, the company has now extended the bus services to her for free. This was done so as to encourage her to travel alone.
What we find now is that both these initiatives fulfil the policy objectives of the United Nations - "integration of persons with disabilities into the main stream". It goes on to show the passion and commitment with which we nurture our Corporate social sustainability initiatives.
That's the mj spirit which we are proud of...that's the spirit which keeps us going!
