Lahari Basu in the fray to win the "Lead India" campaign

Times of India has come up with this campaign called 'Lead India" to nominate future young leaders. The winner gets the ticket to stand in the general elections 2008 as an independent candidate or part of any political party. This is an all India campaign. Also the winner gets a corpus public fund of Rs.50 lac to fund any public welfare project.

There would be several elimination rounds. So far there have been three elimination round and 25 contestants have been selected from the eastern region.

Lahari Basu of Steel sales has the unique distinction of being amongst the 25 contestants. She believes Lead India is the kind of platform that might help to attract the best to politics. If she gets a chance to lead, she will address the country’s population problem first. Then she proposes to take up the issue of cultural divide.
